As we come to the end of a
turbulent and forgettable 2020,
amid a second wave of Covid-19,
we have to look towards 2021
with a positive and energetic
attitude and with a prayer that
the world might soon restore
itself into something we once
knew, loved and admired.
The virus has virtually put the
brakes on to the world except
for one vital obstacle in its
destructive path - that of human
resilience and courage.
We have fought back, and while
we still remain wary and
conscious of the deadly virus
there is clearly light at the
end of the tunnel. Vaccines have
already been rolled out in
certain countries while it is
probable that 2021 will see most
countries having access or part
access to certain vaccines.
I would like to, on behalf of
the WBF, thank all the front
line workers, who have put their
lives on the line, for their
incredible sacrifice.
On the WBF front, after a
blackout of almost 8 months,
boxing has returned, albeit
differently to the past - but
returned it has!
Several events in Europe have
been postponed but rescheduled
for early next year, similarly
in the United States and Mexico.
Africa has already had a few
shows, those taking place in
South Africa, Tanzania and
Botswana.
Eddie Marshall and I head out on
Wednesday to Nigeria where we
have two WBF shows on 27
December and 1 January.
In addition we have shows lined
up next year again in Tanzania
and also in Botswana, Zimbabwe,
Kenya, Zambia and South Africa.
To our WBF family members,
particular our officials - I
thank you for your patience and
understanding and can assure you
that 2021 will be a better and
busier year as we continue to
open up new countries.
We will, even though we had a
reduced number of fights this
year, announce certain award
winners for 2020 early next
month.
To the WBF team in its entirety,
I wish you a merry Christmas and
a truly wonderful, happy, safe
and prosperous new year - and
thank you for your support and
commitment.
I look forward to the day we can
have another Convention
(possibly even in Cape Town)
where we can sit down face to
face, smile to smile, and have a
drink together without masks and
with joy and happiness.
I wish you all the best, and
take care.
Until next time,
keep punching.
