The story has been told before,
												of how Frenchman Michel Mothmora
												started his professional career
as a journeyman, taking on all
comers on short notice and often
getting the short end of the
												stick, but later turned his
												career around and developed into
												a genuine contender.

												Now the 35-year-old from Gien
will get his first world title
shot, as he takes on Brazilian
												champion John Anderson Carvalho
												for the vacant World Boxing
												Federation (WBF) World
												Middleweight title on Friday May
6 at the Palais Omnisports in
												Cayenne, French Guiana.

												At one point Mothmora´s record
												was 15-21, and after three
losses in a row there was no
sign that he would ever be more
												than just a steppingstone. But
then he won eight of his next
												nine bouts, and was rewarded
												with a WBF International title
												fight against undefeated Czech
												Stepan Horvath (11-0) in
												November 2013.

												Mothmora beat Horvath by split
												decision, and made one
												successful defense of his title
												before relinquishing it in 2014.
He went on to add the WBF
												Intercontinental crown in March
												2015, and retained that title
												last December. Now, at 28-24
(10), he is looking to complete
the fairytale by winning the WBF
												World title against Carvalho.

												John Anderson Carvalho (33) is
												himself a very experienced and
												accomplished boxer, and brings a
												fine 24-5-2 (14) record.
												Ironically, while Mothmora is
												the home-fighter, but more than
												7000 kilometers away from
												France, Carvalho is much closer
to his actual home as Brazil
												borders to French Guiana.

												Having won the Brazilian
												national title and the WBO
												Latino championship, Carvalho
has competed at world level for
more than ten years, and only
												lost to former WBF World
												Champion Anderson Clayton
												(19-4), Rogerio Pereira (11-0),
												Sebastian Zbik (23-0), Gennady
												Golovkin (16-0) and Maryin
												Murray (21-0).

												Since losing to Murray in
												England, Carvalho has won three
of his latest four bouts by
												first round knockout, while the
												fourth fight ended in a
												twelve-round draw against fellow
												countryman Douglas Damiao Ataide
(13-1). He too will be fighting
												for his first world
												championship.

A capacity crowd of around 5000
												spectators is expected when the
												Mothmora vs. Carvalho WBF World
												Middleweight title fight
												headlines a show promoted by
												Jacques Chinon and Guyana Ring.
												Three more professional bouts
												and two
												amateur contests will complete
												the card. |
